Rapid access physiotherapy

Rapid access physiotherapy

Every day GPs see many people who have problems with their muscles, joints and spine.

One Care is testing whether offering a rapid telephone assessment with a specialist physiotherapist for a number of these problems will help to shift demand away from GP appointments and increase patient satisfaction.

A number of practices in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire are taking part in this month pilot, which began in November 2015 and ends in March 2017.

Service available from November 2015:

Service available from April 2016

Service available from May 2016

Patients with new presentations of problems with their muscles, joints or spine are offered a same-day telephone assessment from a physiotherapist*. Those requiring further assessment are offered a face to face appointment within various locations in the area.

The physiotherapist will be able to give the patient exercises and advice for their condition. If after this, the patient requires further treatment or pain relief they will be referred back to their GP.

*next day telephone assessment if referred after 16:00

We have put together this video to share with our practice shareholders six months on from 21 June 2016; the day that we asked the practices in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire, to vote on whether or not you wanted One Care to become your GP organisation.

The video contains an update on a number of areas including: recent confirmation of new funding streams, general practice involvement with the Sustainability and Transformation Plan, the launch of the new company and plans for 2017.

We hope you find it informative and that it demonstrates the progress the organisation has made over the last six months.

Please contact us if you have any questions, feedback or would like to discuss anything further.
